چکیده

Scientific workflows have become visible as a new method for scientists to develop and design complex and distributed scientific processes to enable and accelerate many scientific discoveries. Workflows are widely used in business for a long time. However, scientific workflows are emerging as an important technology for solving complex scientific problems and thereby contributing to scientific development. The advantages of high-performance grid-based computing for scientific workflows, and the problems noted with existing scientific workflow management software, provide the rationale for the development of new workflow processes for efficient use of heterogeneous scientific workflows system and utilizing grid computing. The main contributions of this paper are: 1) to propose a scientific workflow system to design, develop, and execute scientific workflows from heterogeneous scientific workflows; 2) to propose a scheduling technique for parallel executing of heterogeneous scientific workflows; and 3) to present a GENOEMFLOW based scientific workflow application to showcase the application of our system.

Heterogeneous composition of models of computation

A model of computation (MoC) is a formal abstraction of execution in a computer. There is a need for composing diverse MoCs in e-science. Kepler, which is based on Ptolemy II, is a scientific workflow environment that allows for MoC composition. This paper explains how MoCs are combined in Kepler and Ptolemy II and analyzes which combinations of MoCs are currently possible and useful. It demons...

Challenges in Managing Implicit and Abstract Provenance Data: Experiences with ProvManager

Running scientific workflows in distributed and heterogeneous environments has been motivating the definition of provenance gathering approaches that are loosely coupled to workflow management systems. We have developed a provenance management system named ProvManager to manage provenance data in distributed and heterogeneous environments independent of a specific Scientific Workflow Management...

Facilitating the Reproducibility of Scientific Workflows with Execution Environment Specifications

Scientific workflows are designed to solve complex scientific problems and accelerate scientific progress. Ideally, scientific workflows should improve the reproducibility of scientific applications by making it easier to share and reuse workflows between scientists. However, scientists often find it difficult to reuse others’ workflows, which is known as workflow decay. In this paper, we explo...

Sharing Product Data among Heterogeneous Workflow Environments

Nowadays, we increasingly face the situation that possibly heterogeneous workflow environments must be integrated in order to support company-internal business processes as well as cooperation among different enterprises more effectively. Thus, interoperability of heterogeneous workflow management systems (WfMSs) is the major goal of one of our projects conducted with industrial cooperation par...
